Porthstrasse 11

Quick post of our Frankfurt apartment.  More to come.

Come in the door

Our bedroom, including federdeckes

a second bedroom! - Surprise to us so come visit!
Notice the sunglasses on the desk, not in my purse.
Looks like I won't be needing them in Frankfurt since the sun shines a mere 50 days per year.

Reasonable bathroom, including clothes dryer and authentic German shelf toilet.

Kitchen with Rand's yummy brot.
The appliance on the left isn't a dishwasher, it's the clothes washer. It has everything else (well except a garbage dispoasl - not the German way)

Living room with cute German booth

We have a balcony with living plants (let's see how long they last with me caring for them)

Week Zwei

We had medical training downtown this week. The Church loves our missionaries and does everything possible for their well-being. I learned so much that I even diagnosed some scenarios correctly (it helped that I've overheard a lot of Rand's phone calls over the years).

We wondered if we'd be hauling his old medical textbooks to Germany but no, we have access to 15 up-to-date, on-line medical websites and other links to address missionary concerns, including orthopedic and gynecological issues that Rand hasn't dealt with since medical school. We were so good at navigating the information that we were the second ones to finish our final test (after a couple who had already served a mission). Yea us!

The website includes Power Point presentations for educating missionaries about good health practices. They're almost as good as the

Today started with the Tabernacle Choir broadcast.Great way to say good-bye to SLC for 18 months.

Next Sunday we'll be posting from
(Thanks for the cute stickers, Cheri and John.)

Mission Training Center

November 10, Monday 7am.
I was so nervous that I woke up at 4, took Millie out for a run and fussed around for awhile.  Rand takes everything in stride. It was a normal day for him, including eating breakfast on the way.

The MTC felt familiar to us. I had been there 30+ years ago when it was called the Language Training Mission. And we had dropped each of our four children off there for their missions.

Here's when we took Rachel to the MTC before she left for the Montreal mission. Who could've imagined that 10 years later, Rand and I would be in front of those same bicyclists?
(We asked an elder to take this photo and he sighed as he held the phone "Wow, a cell phone!" We are so happy that we are allowed to have our phones, laptops, Skype etc.)

So the only way to take away some of the sting of saying good-bye to family and friends is to meet new friends... or old friends that we hadn't seen for awhile.  Greg and Peggy Stevens are called to be Area Medical Advisers in Mexico City. Ted and Richie played soccer together and Nick and Spencer know each other. They are responsible for all 34 Mexican missions until March, when another doctor will arrive. Makes our 12 sound easy.  You can read her blog

Peg gives a great summary of seeing the young missionaries being dropped off on Wednesday, struggling to stay awake while sitting for hours and the amazing couples who give their all to the Church.

(Looks like I think we're going to Spain. Ha ha, Nick)

Here's our district. The Redds, going to Malaga, Spain, Fullmers to Independence, MO, Meyers to Korea and one of our two fabulous instructors.  They are strong, faithful, happy couples who will be great ambassadors of Jesus Christ.  Good luck!
